The 1.5%

When I spent a summer in India in my young 20's, we would frequent rooftop bars or cafés. Around this time, I was really obsessed with the Myer's-Briggs personality test. I would casually ask people, "What is your Myer's-Briggs Type," and if the answer was "no idea," we proceeded to figure it out! One of my distinct memories from that trip was drinking Kingfisher and taking personality tests.
I have never felt so connected to a personality test result than I do to my identity as an INFJ!

According to a website, this is the summary of my personality type:
INFJ (Advocate) is a personality type with the Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging traits. They tend to approach life with deep thoughtfulness and imagination. Their inner vision, personal values, and a quiet, principled version of humanism guide them in all things. Idealistic and principled, people with the INFJ personality type aren’t content to coast through life – they want to stand up and make a difference. For these compassionate personalities, success doesn’t come from money or status but from seeking fulfillment, helping others, and being a force for good in the world. While they have lofty goals and ambitions, INFJs shouldn’t be mistaken for idle dreamers. People with this personality type care about integrity, and they’re rarely satisfied until they’ve done what they know to be right. Conscientious to the core, they move through life with a clear sense of their values, and they aim to never lose sight of what truly matters – not according to other people or society at large but according to their own wisdom and intuition.
I feel so proud to read that description and one thing I like about this personality test is that each of the personalities is presented in a very favorable light. And it’s true--we all have so many strengths and gifts to offer the world.
For as nice as all of the above sounds, here are some of the weaknesses that I also, unfortunately, strongly relate to:
Perfectionist
Sensitive to criticism
Avoiding the ordinary while yearning for the extraordinary
Prone to burnout
Difficulty facing or resolving conflict
Struggles to compromise when it relates to their values
These are some of my daily struggles and knowing that these traits are deeply ingrained in my personalty helps me to learn how to navigate life with them rather than fighting against or denying them.

An interesting fact that I recently learned is that the INFJ personality type only makes up 1.5% of the population?! No wonder I feel so “odd” sometimes. :P
Reading about my personality type has always helped me to have a better understanding of and connection with myself. I’ve always pondered whether personality is nature or nurture and of course, it’s a combination of both. I see a lot of my mom and my dad in me (the good and the bad). I notice more of their personalities in my own the older I get. But I’m also distinctly unique. I’m learning to understand, nurture, and love the nuances about myself more and more as time passes.
If you’d like to find out your personality type, take the free quiz HERE! Seriously, you should do it. I would genuinely LOVE to read about all my friends and family’s personalities! Do you identify with your results? Tell me!
As always, thanks for reading along!
